Being A Watchman

 June 2 2025

Watchman - noun. Derived from the verb meaning 'to watch in anticipation'.

In the Old Testament, a watchman was an official military position. Stationed on the towers of a city, they were responsible for spotting approaching enemies and sounding the alarm (trumpet) to warn the inhabitants. But they were also the prophets. And how many times did God send them to warn the people?

A watchman’s failure was punishable by death.

God’s instructions to his watchmen, specifically Ezekiel, was clear.  (Ezekiel 33:1 – 6). But not only the responsibility of the watchman should he fail in his duty but those he watches out for have a responsibility as well.

Ezekiel 33:3-6   “When he (the watchman) sees the sword coming upon the land, if he blows the trumpet and warns the people, then whoever hears the sound of the trumpet and does not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But he who takes warning will save his life.

But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, and the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at the watchman’s hand.”  (NKJV)

Being a spiritual watchman comes with great responsibility. Not just in the Old Testament, because being a watchman is applicable to us today. Maybe even more so, because we have the ability to be on watch for more than a city.

Christians, every single one of us, are called to be watchmen, to be warning people of what is coming. We who have discernment can “see” the enemy approaching, can see the evil making inroads. If we have a heart for people, then we must be obeying Christ’s commandment -

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  (Matt 28: 19-20)

God doesn’t want anyone to perish, which is why He wants you to know that good deeds alone don’t get you into Heaven, or offer escape from the coming Great Tribulation. Your good deeds will be noticed by others and by God, yes.  But it is accepting Christ’s gift of salvation, acknowledging your sins and that you need Him in your life, that’s what guarantees heaven and escape.

And so, that is why I post. To warn, to bring truth, to lead people to Him. But that’s all I can do.  I bring the Good News, I can bring the truth about Jesus (vastly different from what is being taught too widely today), but I can’t save anyone. That’s a decision between you and Christ.

Just as God told Ezekiel – the watchman’s duty is to warn. If people don’t heed, they are the ones accountable, not the watchman, not me.

“Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.”  (Colossians 1:28  NKJV)

My trumpet is the internet, and my responsibility is to obey God.

What is your decision?

In Yeshua's Name
