Sometimes
we trip, sometimes we stumble and then there are the times we fall right off
the cliff – sin.
Temptation
isn’t the sin, but acting on it is. The enemy well knows how much instant
gratification appeals to us, and if our weakness comes with not thinking about
the consequences, then we fall.
We need to
look to Jesus for our example – He was tempted in all things just as we are
today. How did He resist? His go-to weapon was the Word of God. Ironically, the
enemy must have not been thinking when he tried to use the Word of God, against
the One Who is the Word! (Matthew 4)
Pretty much
all sin is rooted in one of three things – and were the three areas Satan tried
to tempt Christ (Matthew 4: 1 – 11)
Lust of the flesh - 'turn these stones into bread'
Lust of the eyes - 'all these things I will give you'
Pride of life - Quotes scripture to say the angels would let no harm befall him
When Christ was in the wilderness, fasting for 40 days, the enemy tried these tactics to trip Him up. No matter what Satan threw at Him, Christ countered it with scripture, quoting from Deuteronomy.
Satan easily gains the upper hand over the biblically illiterate – so read your Bible,
meditate on it and seek understanding from the Holy Spirit. The Word of God is
our offensive weapon, to be used with the defensive armour of Ephesians 6.
But back to
the title of this post – did you know Jesus is praying for YOU… right now? Read what He says to Peter, to comfort and
encourage him after telling Peter that Satan asked for him (note that Satan
‘asked’ – he had to get permission from God first!), to sift him. Christ told Peter, “But I have prayed for
you, that your faith should not fail;”
(Luke 22:32)
And later,
in Romans 8:34, 1 John 2:1, Hebrews 7:25 there is confirmation that we have an
Advocate, interceding on our behalf. When we fall and the enemy would be quick
to accuse us before our Heavenly Father, Jesus steps in on our behalf!
Take
comfort in that fact – Christ prays for you! He sees you as worthy to advocate
on your behalf before the Father!
The Grace
of the LORD Jesus Christ be with you.
In His Name,
with love
Liz
